Changes to Pride Month (2020)

In an effort to recognize and amplify Pride Month 2020, we devised a new specialized banner that lives at the top of the Untappd app home screen for maximum exposure. We created this banner to further increase visibility around our support for Pride and share in our users' support for the LGBTQIA+ community. With this banner and through the use of a new feature, we aimed to create a seamless method to show support for Pride and earn the badge. This approach failed to live up to our expectations. We listened to user feedback and found that while the banner ensured our support for Pride was seen by more users than ever before, the opt-in feature itself provided users with a poor experience and did not align with Untappd's culture of promoting diversity and inclusivity.

It was our mistake to institute this feature for the first time with a badge as significant as Pride Month.

Effective immediately, the Pride Month (2020) badge will revert back to the 2019 format for badges and will be awarded to all users upon their next check-in. We will extend the Pride Badge until July 12th in order to make up for the time lost as we worked through these issues. We have some work to do around our platform and we are reviewing how best to leverage our platform to promote future campaigns in a way that both improves upon the current experience and allows us to celebrate the causes that we hold near and dear as a company. We appreciate user feedback and are committed to doing right by our global user community.

Note: The badge and its accessories have been extended and can be earned/used through July 12, 2020
